Biographical
Information: Michael Monahan has served since 1994 as director of
International Center, a comprehensive center responsible for foreign
students, study abroad, and selected international faculty programs.
Previously he served for five years as Asst. Director of International
Education at the University of Iowa and had worked for eight years
for the School for International Training, including four years in
study abroad administration in Vermont and four years based abroad
as Academic Director in Mexico, Spain, Ireland and Denmark. He has
undertaken independent study on nationalism and ethnic conflict in
Northern Ireland, Sri Lanka, and Quebec; has participated in faculty
development seminars in Hungary, Brazil, and South Africa; has evaluated
study abroad programs in some two dozen countries; and, outside of
higher education, has worked on issues of Cuban and Haitian refugee
resettlement in Florida. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Political
Science and Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and
a Master's degree from the American Graduate School of International
Management. His intellectual and professional interests are in the
areas of international liberal learning, educational philosophy, faculty
development, and ethnic conflict in deeply divided societies.

Biographical
Information: Author/editor of five books and over two dozen articles,
Ahmed Samatar is the founding editor of Macalester International
as well as Bildhaan -- the first publishes two of the college's
yearly academic and internationalist initiatives; the latter is the
first new and refereed international journal of Somali Studies. Samatar
has lectured at numerous academic institutions that include: University
of London, Harvard, Toronto, Amsterdam, Otago, Cornell, Wellesley,
Oslo, Iowa, LSE, Somali National University, and the Institute of
the Arab and Islamic World (Paris). Samatar, who teaches both introductory
and senior seminars for international studies at Macalester, has created
and led the biennial Macalester Faculty Development International
Seminars to Hungary, Brazil, South Africa, and, in January 2002 to
Malaysia -- the last two with Michael Monahan.

Biographical
Information: Katherine Yngve has worked in higher education since
1990, and now serves as Study Abroad Coordinator at Macalester College.
She has presented workshops on Technology and Study Abroad at state,
regional and national conferences of NAFSA: Association for International
Educators; served as founding chair of the SECUSSA standing Committee
on Technology; and continues to sit on the steering committee of NAFSA's
Technology Special Interest Group. Her experience overseas includes
residence in Britain, study in France and in Israel, and circumnavigation
of the globe. She is a graduate of Indiana University and the University
of Chicago.
