The Center provided an opportunity to consolidate and advance faculty and student interest in Central Europe or Russia through faculty development opportunities appropriate for both area specialists and faculty with less experience in the region. The Center was administered by Associated Colleges of the Midwest and drew upon resources related to the ACM programs in Olomouc, Czech Republic and in Krasnodar, Russia. Student travel grants The task forces wants to encourage students to engage Central Europe and Russia, and so offered travel grants to support study in the region. Ten students received grants in January 2006. More information is available here. Concluding Symposium The project summarized its work in the region with a symposium, April 8-10, 2005, at the University of Richmond. It brought together previous seminar participants and travel grant recipients, along with others interested in the region, to to assess the state of the field, to review work supported by the project, and to identify future tasks and opportunities for the colleges and consortia in studying the region. International Visitors Program The Global Partners Project provided financial support for colleges who want to bring visitors from Central/Eastern Europe or Russia to their campuses to teach, lecture, or present cultural programs. As the project is ending, these initiative has ended. A list of previous awards is here. Faculty Travel Grants Six rounds of travel grants were given to faculty with research projects or connections in the areas or for faculty who are prospective program directors.
Faculty Development Seminars A centerpiece of the center's work was a series of interdisciplinary faculty development seminars in the region.
Central Europe & Russia Task Force The Center's work was guided by the Central Europe & Russia Task Force, made up of individuals from member institutions of ACM, ACS and GLCA.
