As part of its efforts to diversify and strengthen international and study abroad projects for the forty two member colleges in the Global Partners Project, ACS developed a number of important programs. Ongoing programs include the following: Study Abroad ProgramThe Global Partners Turkey Task Force has developed a unique study abroad program for students. The program started in the Fall of 2001 and takes place each fall semester. Students study for 3 weeks in Istanbul, participate in a field study trip in western Turkey, and then spend the Fall semester in Ankara. In Ankara students study at either Bilkent University or Middle East Technical University. Each year, the program is led by a Global Partners faculty member.
Faculty Development SeminarRollins College sponsors a summer faculty development seminar to Costa Rica for the 42 colleges of the Global Partners Project. In 2007, ten faculty members from across the three consortia, representing a variety of disciplines, participated. Joint Effort on Assessing Study Abroad (Funded by the Teagle Foundation)The Associated Colleges of the South (ACS), Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM), and Great Lakes Colleges Association (GLCA) are collaborating on a project to assess varying models of study abroad programs for students at liberal arts colleges and to determine the learning outcomes that result from such programs. Discussion ListWe have established a discussion list for faculty at Global Partners member institutions who are interested in issues related to Turkey. The list allows colleagues with this common interest to exchange ideas and information across consortia. If you are interested in joining this list, please send an e-mail to acs@colleges.org
