Global Partners in Turkey |
|||
As part of its efforts to diversify and strengthen international and study abroad projects for the forty two member colleges in the Global Partners Project, ACS had developed a number of important programs in Turkey. Past Programs:In light of limited participation by ACS students, the consortium has decided to discontinue its Fall Semester in Turkey program. Discussion List We established a discussion list for faculty at Global Partners member institutions who were interested in issues related to Turkey. The list allowed colleagues with this common interest to exchange ideas and information across consortia. Faculty Development Seminars The Global Partners Turkey Task Force sponsored participation in the Council on International Educational Exchange’s (CIEE) faculty seminars in Turkey. Faculty from ACM, ACS and GLCA institutions, representing a full range of disciplines, were supported. During the Summers of 2000 through 2005, ACS and Global Partners sent 46 faculty members to the Council on International Educational Exchange's seminar "Transformations in Turkey: Economics, Polity, and Religion." The participants attended lectures on a variety of subjects and had the opportunity to visit not only Istanbul and Ankara, but also villages and important archeological sites. They were introduced to Turkeys religious, political, and economic diversity through lectures, site visits, and study tours in Istanbul, Ankara, the countrys capital, and Central Anatolia. Faculty Development Travel Grants Travel grant funding was also made available for faculty with research projects or connections in Turkey. Six participants took advantage of this opportunity.
